Summer Revels 2012

Wow. Speechless. almost!
What a lovely day. Our friends and family did us proud. Relatives from Southampton, Kent, Cambridge and closer to home made the journey. It was wonderful to see the small children jumping in the sack race, running miles past the post in football/cricket, building towers with the jenga bricks and just enjoying being small children.
The medium sized children joined in too, also became heavily involved in dog walking and picnic eating.
The big children (i.e. all of the adults) cheated, moved the goalposts, sabotaged the opposition, sledged the bowler and generally enjoyed each others company.

Thank you to everyone that came, it was so great to see you all, I'm so glad I know you all and am so proud of our family (my friends I include you in this). You guys made the day special, brilliant!

Summer Revels 2012 - Status...

Summer Revels are go, go, go.
Weather report says overcast with the chance of a few light showers (gazebo on standby).

So come one, come all, down to the park for a picnic, a catch-up with family and friends and we may even have time for a game of rounders or football-cricket!

Summer Revels 2012 - The Countdown

The Countryfile weather report looks good for Sunday - updates will be posted on here and my FaceAche page. If it all goes pear-shaped, we'll gather in my back garden and play sardines!

Sunday 2nd September 2012 from noon

The Fink's annual Summer Revels will take place in

Gadebridge Park, Leighton Buzzard Road, Hemel Hempstead

Hopefully there will be (for those that choose to take part - no pressure) rounders, tug-o-war across the river (there will be a footwear inspection prior to the tug-o-war, anyone found to be wearing studded footwear of any kind will be punished by doing the games in their vest and pants!)

sack races, egg & spoon, and hopefully a few other olympic style events.

Bring a picnic, chairs, rugs, outdoor toys, kites, fishing nets, buckets, bikes, balls, juggling kit, poi, children, dogs and elderly relatives, all welcome for a relaxing afternoon of larks in the park.

check the link for Facilities at Gadebridge Park, there is also extensive free parking on site, ice cream van, toilets, kiddies play park, a stream.

The Finks will be set up with the gazebo and 'Fink Family On Tour' flag, not far from the white bridge.

If for any reason the event is to be cancelled, I'll post updates here, I will also post an update on Sunday 2nd September to either confirm the gig is on or called off.

Happy Days

The day started with a potential tragedy. As we were loading the car with the kit needed for the day e.g. juice, sandwiches, bats, balls, poi, frisbees, diablo, chairs, gazebos etc, Mr Fink dropped his keys. As he turned round to find them, Little Fink appeared in the gateway, "Where did my keys go?" He asked. "They dropped in the drain, dad." Commence Operation Gully Sucker. Mr fink removed the drain cover, I gathered tools, fishing nets and the 'crayfish trap extractor' (an extendible pole with a radiator paint roller skeleton gaffer taped to it). After 10 minutes of fishing out the muck and goo Mr Fink located the keys on the pole, "Hooray" I shouted. "Plop" they fell off the hook, back into the drain. "Doh!" Anyway. eventually the keys were found, washed and we headed off to the Revels.
There must have been about 40-50 people there from as far afield as Hastings, Sussex; Heysham, Lancs; March, Cambs; Hertford and Cheshunt.
We enjoyed games of rounders (no clear winners as usual but some fantastic catching, hitting and running), sack races (winners Danny and Tom) and garden cricket. Some people were kite flying, playing boules, giant jenga (Bartenga), water fights (Shouty Grandad), the children enjoyed the nearby splash park and generally running around in the park.
It was wonderful to see all our families and friends together in a setting where everyone did as they pleased. There was abundant laughter and catching up.
Thank you all so much for coming, you are the people that make it such an enjoyable day. We love you all and to those that couldn't make it this time - don't worry, there will be another next year.
