As it was a Bank holiday weekend, I decided to invite Nanny and Shouty Grandad round for dinner on Sunday. I took a call from them the night before asking if the dinner could stretch to 2 more guests. My aunty and uncle from Cumbria had arrived in their campervan for an impromptu visit.
For dinner I cooked roast chicken and smoked gammon with all the proper roast dinner trimmings, including huge yorkshire puddings. I was a little apprehensive over the gravy. When I made dinner for my in-laws (many years ago) my father-in-law thought the amount of gravy I sent to the table, hysterical and never fails to rib me about it at every opportunity.
So, with trepidation I sent a litre of gravy to the table with the comment that, 'there's more in the pan'. Not a murmur, not a flicker of an eyelid.
We had a lovely time, eating drinking and sharing the craic when anyone could get a word in around Shouty Grandad. It was lovely to have them and I cant wait to see them again, along with the rest of my family in August when we have a humungus gathering of the clans to mark Nanny and Shouty Grandad's Golden wedding anniversary.
(Yes I WILL be forging a medal for her!)
