| Nari and Mouse at the RSPCA |
Well, Mouse settled in very quickly. After 3 weeks he was a confident, inquisitive, bundle of fluff. Either zooming around at 100mph or curled up in someone's arms, fast asleep.
On Thursday I went to pick up his mum, Nari, from the RSPCA. (She had to stay with them until her milk had dried up, then she could be spayed. If he'd been left with her, her milk wouldn't have dried up.)
I brought a very vocal Nari into the house in her carrier and let her out in the dining room and kitchen while Mouse was shut in the front room. She explored, gracefully jumped up on the sideboard, checked out the hidey holes and generally made herself at home.
I could hear Mouse on the other side of the door, meowing and I could see him poking his paws under the door, desperate to join in.
Nari seemed very calm so I let him in. Oh boy.
She, was calm, polite and a lady. He, was hissing, arching his back and fluffing his tail out. He hated her on sight. I don't know if he felt threatened? if he felt undermined? if he knew he is also a cat, the same as her?
Anyway, for the rest of the night, he stayed behind the sofa, growling, yowling and hissing. He only stopped when she went to see him and then he started screaming and backing into corners. What a noise.
I left them to it while I went to work this morning, when I returned, he was hiding in the corner with the ironing board and she was upstairs on the bed.
After some internet research I have decided to split them up and introduce them more slowly. My plan is to keep them separated but to swap the areas they have access to every couple of hours so he can get used to her smell.
I hope in time to be able to introduce them to each other more successfully.
I've just spent a very enjoyable couple of hours cuddling him and he's back to 'normal'. the next step is to swap over their accommodation. I hope there's no 'dirty' protests.
~ update 28.9.13 ~
I've taken the difficult decision to take nari back to the RSPCA. Mouse was in danger of being injured during her attempts to assume the dominant role. Sad.
