Welcome to Xander

Last Sunday Mr Fink, Nelly and I went to our local RSPCA with the sole intention of choosing 2 kittens to adopt. After viewing all the cats and kittens, we had 3 choices of animals we liked. We retired to the little coffee bar to discuss options over tea and cookies.
Choice 1 - 3 tortoiseshell females aged 8 years, 4 years and 2 years to be homed together, beautiful to look at but possible a little shy for us. We discounted the girls.
Choice 2 - A robust 4 year old tabby called Maurice who had suffered a minor stroke but which left him with a habit of inclining his head to the side. he resembled a wild cat.
Choice 3 - Xander, a 12 year old black and white tom, his owner died and Xander was taken in to the RSPCA in June 2012 when there was no one to care for him. We asked the staff at the centre, "which cat is going to be the hardest to rehome?" They told us Xander was, due to his age.

We decided on Xander. When we went back through to view him again, there was a reserve notice on Maurice so we knew Xander was the cat for us.

After the home check I was able to collect him on Thursday and bring him home. He has settled in brilliantly. He played 'chase the string' with Mr Fink, cuddled up to me and spent the night on Nelly's bed - he has won our hearts already.

He rushes towards you and head bumps your hand so hard to be stroked. If you stop stroking him, he reaches out his paw and gently touches your arm to ask you to carry on. Such a lovely affectionate cat, we're glad he has accepted our offer of a home and he seems to like it and us.
