Ridicule is nothing to be scared of...

Tonight Matthew.....I will be in the mosh pit pogoing to Adam and the Ants as they perform locally.
How excited am I? My childhood hero, first crush.
I remember when I was 11 and still in the last year of Primary School, The Sun newspaper were giving away an Adam Ant poster, all you had to do was collect a token each day and send them off at the end of the week. On the way to school each day I used some of my dinner money to buy the newspaper, I carefully cut out the token at school and kept them safe. On the Friday, one of the teachers stopped me in the corridor and told me I wasn't to bring the newspaper to school anymore because it contained unsuitable material. Oh the injustice - I never did get that poster.
My obsession with Adam interfered with my education too. Did I camp outside his house for days on end? Did I insist on wearing eyeliner and a white nose stripe to school? No, during my 6th year junior school reading test, we had to read a list of words, the words became more and more difficult as you progressed down the page. I was doing fine until, "adamant", I knew the word but it came out, "Adam Ant", I was given a reading age of 15 years. If I'd not met and fallen for Adam, my reading age might have been 16 years at age 11. Tsk Tsk - Rock chick rebel that I am.
The highlight of my Adam Ant crush came at my first year of secondary school, we had MUFTI day, you pay a fee to wear your own clothes for the day, the teachers used to pay and dress up in fancy dress, all in the name of fundraising you understand.
Joy of joys, Mr (Grr i can't remember his name, It was unusual and began with an I or an E), the boys PE teacher, slim, short, with wild curly hair came to school dressed as my hero - boy he looked fantastic! I think I blushed all day!
