Patience is a Virtue - Apparently!

Hmm yummy - Elderflowers - make wine/cordial from these
Gack - icky stinky cat-wee smelling flowers - do not pick these!

Mr Fink and Little Fink and I just got back from our local field, looking for elder trees, I'm hoping to make a demijohn of elderflower wine. We found some but the tree is so tall, think I need to take my 'crayfish pot grabber' along to get the branches down - of course I need to leave enough for the berries in the autumn (and for the birds too!)
My red wine has finished fermenting, I've added stabiliser, I'm not waiting for it to settle so I can syphon it off into demijohns/bottles. I had a minor panic as I appear to have a problem with my sense of smell and taste. For instance I cant smell when milk is off. Unless it's verging on the solid - I can't tell. Many times Little Fink has said, "Do I have to eat these cornflakes? They taste funny?" Only for me to find 'bits' in the milk.
So when I tasted the wine, I couldn't tell if it was vinegar or Merlot. So I enlisted Mr Fink. He has a reputation for being straight talking. (He once commented on a friend's home-made soup - "It's al-right but I wouldn't have it again." The verdict on the wine - "It's drinkable, it's not Rosemount, but it's drinkable." From Mr Fink - high praise indeed!
Off mudlarking on Sunday - woo hoo.
