A little bit of magic

I was just talking to Mr Fink, don't you find, there are some subject which you just 'don't get'?

My particular stumbling blocks are

1. Electricity - I know it works, I've seen it in action, I know when it should be there and when it shouldn't, I've even felt it once or twice, but I don't understand how it works. Why doesn't it leak out of the plug hole when there is no plug in? How can it be possible to plug a lamp in the socket and it works, plug in an extension lead and 4 lamps can work. How?

2. Canal locks. I know they work, I've seen 'em in action, even helped to open a few. But I don't understand how come they don't get empty sometimes? If all your traffic is going one way, surely at some point, you must run out of water at the top?

3. Car Gears. I use them every day, I can hear them, even seen them and used the phrase 'synchromesh' once in a while, but honestly, I don't really 'get' it.

4. Project Management speak, I'm doing a home study course in Project management and have overdosed on acronyms and techno babble. What is the point - why not use plain language everyone can understand - after all Project Management is all about encouraging people to perform tasks together, communicate and motivate each other - no? I don't get it?

These are my failings. I am though, in full understanding of... a) the offside rule, b) the give way rules on the Slough Magic Roundabout, c) the inner workings of rota's.

What is it they say, "ignorance is bliss" - "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing".
